Benefits Of Using An Industrial Checkweigher
22nd September 2021 by Jess

Checkweighers can be an important piece of inspection equipment for manufacturers looking to improve output and quality of a final product. In essence, a checkweigher helps to automate inspection and product weighing in one single unit. When it is set up and all settings are used to their capabilities, it can bring a variety of benefits.

What is a Checkweigher

As mentioned, a checkweigher is used to automate product weighing with inspection in a single unit. A checkweigher works by identifying the weight of your product and comparing it against any limits that have been specified within product guidelines. For example, a product weighing 100g will be determined if it is weighed at the correct weight or if has deviated from any tolerances set.
The SNB Teleios Checkweigher from SNB Electronic Services includes the following on a checkweigher:

  • A weigh belt that is mounted onto a load cell allowing the product can be weighed accurately
  • An infeed belt which helps to control both distance of batches and the speeds they travel onto the weigh belt
  • A reject device with a reject bin to make sure that the under/overweight product does not leave the factory floor
  • A fitted guard stopping products from being taken off by hand whilst the belt is running

SNB offer bespoke checkweighers that can be made to slot into your current production line. We also offer long/short term checkweigher rentals.

Where Should A Checkweigher Be Placed

Checkweigher units can be used throughout a production process. Pre-production could utilise a checkweigher to ensure the correct amount of materials are weighed to create the product. In-line production would benefit from a checkweigher unit as it can help identify contamination and make sure weights are consistent throughout.
Having said this, most manufacturers tend to have their checkweigher placed at the end of the production line to ensure the final product is consumer ready.

Benefits of Checkweighers

There are a variety of benefits to having an industrial checkweigher on your production line:

  • Reduces any product giveaway therefore helping with production costs
  • Consistently checks the weights of products and makes products uniform
  • Ensures product quality is consistent with under and over weights being rejected
  • Allows manufacturers to comply with relevant Codes of Practices
  • Using integrated data capture on your checkweigher can track production line productivity levels
